Dr. Shu Schiller is an Associate Professor in the Department of Management Information Systems & SCM at Wright State University. She holds a Ph.D. Degree in Business Administration with the concentration on Management Information Systems from the Fox School of Business and Management at Temple University. She earned her Master's Degree in Management Science and Bachelor's Degree in Engineering Science at Beijing Institute of Technology. Before she came to the U.S., she worked as a system analyst, development programmer and project manager in Beijing, China.
Dr. Schiller's research focuses on information technology especially virtual technologies and their applications in communication and collaboration. She is interested in topics such as virtual teams and communities, virtual worlds, data analytics, online customer services and communication, instant messaging, web-enhanced teaching and learning, e-textbooks, Green I.S., Information Systems (IS) theories, and qualitative IS research. Her dissertation, granted by the Irwin L. Gross eBusiness Institute at Temple University, studied the online customer service by analyzing instant text chat messages. Her recent publications have appeared in journals such as Small Group Research, Journal of Database Management, Journal of Virtual Worlds Research, Journal of Information Systems Education, Information Systems Frontiers, Journal of Advertising Research, and more.
Dr. Schiller is the recipient of the State of Ohio's 2011 Ohio Faculty Innovator Award. Dr. Schiller's research project, titled Virtual Teams in Virtual Worlds: The Investigation of Collaborative Team Behavior Supported by Non-Immersive Virtual Reality, received a $9,500 funding awarded by the Research and Sponsored Program of Wright State University in 2008. In 2012, she was awarded $8,300 for the 2012 Innovative Teaching Grant by Wright State University.
